New Year, New You

It’s the new year, so while you’re busy making “new year, new you” plans, consider your dog’s fitness too! Canine conditioning has many benefits for pet, sports, and working dogs.

For pet dogs, active mental and physical engagement leads to fewer behavioural issues, better health, and increased longevity. Conditioning lowers the incidence of injuries like cruciate tears that cost thousands of dollars to repair.

For sports and working dogs, conditioning improves proprioception, balance, reaction times, speed, and range of motion. These result in better performances, whether working stock, or in performance sports. It also increases endurance, leading to more focused obedience or tracking performances in sports dogs and better attention & focus and longer working times when working stock.

Conditioning reduces downtime and increases the length of the careers of working and sporting dogs though the ability to counteract forces on the body, adjust the body’s movements as required, better understanding of body positions and the increased muscle moss protects the joint from injury.
